Inter were expected to make an enquiry for Matteo Darmian when they met Manchester United to discuss Romelu Lukaku today.

Piero Ausilio flew to London last night to hold face-to-face talks with the Premier League giants, as Antonio Conte continues preparation ahead of the new season.

Lukaku was the official reason for the visit but Tuttosport this morning said Ausilio was likely to ask about Darmian too.

“Beppe Marotta has never forgotten about him and Conte’s arrival makes him a plausible target,” the paper reported.

Darmian made just five starts for United last season and is not part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for the coming year.

The 29-year-old could replace Dalbert at left-back and would become the 11th Italian in Inter’s squad.

United want €75 million to sell Lukaku and they are unlikely to accept a deal which spreads payment across multiple seasons.

Inter are prepared offer a €10 million loan followed by an obligation to buy for €70 million, but the chances of United agreeing to such a deal are slim.
