Gabriel Barbosa rejected a move to Corinthians before agreeing to join their fellow Brazilian side Flamengo, the club’s owner revealed today.

The forward is on loan with Flamengo until 31 December and is expected to return to Inter for the start of 2020.

Andre Sanchez spoke to Fox Sports and discussed how at one point Corinthians thought they had secured Gabigol last year.

Sanchez said: “There was a player we’d already signed at Corinthians, but he received a better offer from Flamengo… go there, then.

“Gabigol was annoyed with us and he went to Flamengo instead. If you have a better offer you need to go where the better offer comes from.”

Inter will be forced to search for a new destination in January, but the Nerazzurri will struggle to sell him permanently for a fee that avoids a net loss.

Gabigol scored 19 goals in 42 matches for Santos last year and has found the net seven times for Flamengo so far this season.
