Ivan Perisic’s Inter career has been given a second wind as the Croatian explores his new wing-back role under Antonio Conte, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Conte and his coaching staff were convinced Perisic had the technical and athletic qualities to be a good fit in his new 3-5-2 system.

In order for it to be a success, however, the 30-year-old had to be fully motivated to carry out Conte’s new tactical instructions.

“Judging by the results of last week’s fitness tests, the commitment he showed during Inter’s Swiss training camp and his performance in the friendly against Lugano, Perisic is completely on board with the new role,” Corriere assured this morning.

“If he is convinced to stay it is because of the discussions he has had with Conte, both over the phone and in person.”

Inter will face much tougher opposition than Lugano in their next three friendlies, having flown out to Asia to play Manchester United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

“It will be an interesting trio of matches for Inter but also for Perisic, who at the age of 30 has become almost a full-back and is happy about his tactical transformation,” the paper concluded.
