Joao Miranda today confirmed he intends to return to his native Brazil in the next couple of years.

Inter are looking to offload the defender this summer because he only has one year left on his contract, having joined from Atletico Madrid in 2015.

Miranda began his professional career with Coritiba and told Gazeta do Povo he would like to return there before he retires.

“I only had one season playing for their first team and I want to have another one,” the 34-year-old said.

“They helped me develop as a player. The respect and gratitude I have for the club makes me want to help them return to the first division.”

Miranda has been linked in recent weeks with a move to Monaco, but the centre-back refused to be drawn on any specific clubs.

“We’re negotiating at the moment and we’ll see what happens,” he added.

“It depends on a lot of things. Let’s see what happens next week.”

Miranda made 20 appearances in all competitions for Inter last season, falling behind new arrival Stefan De Vrij in the defensive pecking order.
