Inter have made direct contact with Edinson Cavani as they weigh up alternatives to Romelu Lukaku, according to FcInterNews.it.

The Nerazzurri already approached the forward last summer when Mauro Icardi was linked to Juventus, and they have been monitoring his situation again this year.

Cavani is 32 years old and only has one year left on his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, meaning the French champions could not ask for more than €25-30 million.

“The impression is that, with a proper offer, the Uruguay international could accept the idea of leaving PSG to join Inter,” Alessandro Cavasinni reported this evening.

Cavani currently earns €12 million net per season in Paris, but Inter are confident this would not represent a problem as they could guarantee the same figure across multiple years.

The ball is now firmly in Beppe Marotta and Zhang Jindong’s court, who must decide whether to continue pursuing Lukaku or to change tack and go all-in for El Matador.

Antonio Conte has given his approval to the idea of signing Cavani, although he remains hopeful Inter can sign his top target from Manchester United.

Talks for Lukaku and Edin Dzeko are proving more difficult than the Nerazzurri expected, but in the former Palermo and Napoli striker they may just have found the ideal Plan B.
