Inter’s bid to sign Edin Dzeko will not succeed until Roma can find a replacement for the Bosnian, according to Sky Sport.

The Giallorossi wanted Gonzalo Higuain to substitute Dzeko, who has long since agreed personal terms with Inter.

Higuain has no intention of leaving Juventus, though, having spent last season on loan with Milan and Chelsea.

Antonio Conte wanted to sign Dzeko before the start of preseason training but he looks set to be frustrated for a little longer yet.

Dzeko scored 14 goals for Roma last season as they slumped to a sixth-place finish in Serie A, missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time since 2013.

The 33-year-old also created 11 assists under Eusebio Di Francesco and Claudio Ranieri, though, exemplifying the all-round game which has led Conte to request him.

Conte already wanted Dzeko when he was in charge of Chelsea in 2018, but the deal fell through after the parties failed to agree personal terms.

Inter have only reserves and youngsters up front as they tour Asia, with Lautaro Martinez on holiday and Mauro Icardi out in the cold.
