Inter are not chasing alternative strikers yet because they remain determined to sign Romelu Lukaku, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Edinson Cavani, Rafael Leao, Ante Rebic, Duvan Zapata and Rodrigo all represent credible Plan B options for the Nerazzurri.
But Inter want to grant Antonio Conte’s wish of bringing the Belgian to San Siro, as they prepare to properly start talks with Manchester United.
Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will offer €60 million plus bonuses for Lukaku, with the total fee rising to nearly €80 million.
United will keep asking for €83 million and it remains to be seen whether the clubs can agree a deal somewhere in the middle.
Inter will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of Lukaku, though, who is again expected to be left out of United’s squad on Saturday when the teams meet in Singapore.
Selling Mauro Icardi would make life far easier for Inter, producing a capital gain that Inter could reinvest in the Belgian international.
However, talks remain on hold for the club’s former captain, with both Juventus and Napoli eager to wait until August when Icardi’s price tag will have dropped further.
The clubs will then have to agree personal terms with Wanda Nara, meaning any transfer is still a long way away.
Inter’s problem is that Edin Dzeko is now involved in the logjam up front, having been detained by Roma as they seek a replacement.
The Bosnian would move to the club immediately if Marotta and Ausilio paid the Giallorossi the €20 million they want, but they too prefer to wait for more favourable conditions.
Inter are confident Roma cannot continue to ask for that much for a player who is in the final year of his contract, so the 33-year-old will have to stay put for now.
They are also aware signing Dzeko would free up Roma to sign Higuain, in turn pushing Juventus closer towards signing Icardi.
