Romelu Lukaku’s omission from tomorrow’s friendly between Manchester United and Inter provides the Nerazzurri with ‘an umpteenth assist’ to sign the Belgian.

Gazzetta dello Sport this morning pre-empted the news Lukaku would sit out the International Champions Cup clash in Singapore, which was later confirmed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Lukaku will have missed each of United’s first three preseason friendlies, having picked up a small knock to his ankle in training this week.

“He is not doing anything to speed up his recuperation and it’s a silent message to United,” Gazzetta assured.

“It will help Inter make further progress in negotiations after they hit an impasse, following United’s demand for €83 million.”

Lukaku has long since made it clear to United he wants to join Antonio Conte in Milan, but talks have moved far slower than both would have hoped.

United’s lofty asking price has led Inter to carry out a period of reflection, but they do not seem willing to give up on signing the 26-year-old yet.

Conte gave his new club the hurry up during his pre-match press conference on Friday, admitting he had expected Inter to be further ahead with their transfer plans at this stage of the summer.
