Romelu Lukaku will miss Manchester United’s match against Inter in the International Champions Cup on Saturday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed this morning.
Inter and Lukaku are both determined to secure a deal for the forward to join Antonio Conte in Milan, but United’s asking price is making talks difficult.
Solskjaer told reporters in his pre-match press conference that the Belgian was not in the right physical condition to play.
“No, he’s not fit, so he won’t be available,” the Norwegian replied, when asked about Lukaku’s availability tomorrow.
“I don’t have any updates from the last time I spoke to you regarding a transfer.”
Lukaku has now missed each of United’s first three preseason friendlies, previously sitting out wins against Perth Glory and Leeds in Australia.
Last month he described Conte as ‘the best coach in the world’, but he seems no closer to joining Inter than he was then.
Inter will hope Lukaku’s prolonged absence from Solskjaer’s match-day squads is a sign United have decided to sell the player.
