Edinson Cavani would be Inter’s first alternative to Romelu Lukaku if their bid to sign the Belgian failed, Tuttosport confirmed this morning.
Reports first began circling about the Paris Saint-Germain forward yesterday, who is in the final year of his contract and would therefore cost less than Lukaku.
Cavani earns €12 million annually in wages but Inter could get round the problem by offering him a two or three-year contract.
The Nerazzurri have yet to make contact with El Matador, although other sources on Thursday suggested they had.
Inter have also considered a move for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata, who would become another option if Lukaku proved unobtainable.
Atalanta would be able to replace the Colombian but his €60 million price tag is considered excessive.
Inter are also skeptical about spending €70 million to sign Rodrigo from Valencia, while Eintracht Frankfurt’s €40-million rated Ante Rebic is not the type of forward Antonio Conte wants.
“The situation is certainly a confused one at the moment,” Tuttosport concluded.
