Ivan Perisic’s future at Inter was thrown into serious doubt yesterday following harsh comments from Antonio Conte in Singapore.

The Croatian played 45 minutes in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, before his new boss pushed him towards the exit door by saying he was unsuited to playing at wing-back.

Perisic does not have an obvious spot in Conte’s 3-5-2 system but at the moment he has no serious offers, making it very difficult to decipher what will happen next.

“He looked like one of Inter’s best players against Lugano, but the modest opposition didn’t prevent Conte from spotting that something wasn’t working,” the paper reported this morning.

“The Croatian will become very useful again if Inter switch to 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1, but if Conte sticks with this tactical system he’ll have to play as a second striker.

“When he plays at wing-back he has a tendency not to make certain movements which Conte believes are vital.”

Perisic has received various approaches from clubs in China but none have made a proper move to sign him.

The midfielder had interest from Arsenal in the January transfer window, but the Gunners have yet to materialise this summer.

“He would have preferred not to find himself in this position, but so would Inter,” Corriere added.

“The Nerazzurri are already struggling to find buyers for Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan and now they only have Kwadwo Asamoah and Dalbert on the left wing.

“Piero Ausilio and Beppe Marotta will probably have to get back into the market.”
