Borja Valero’s dream of returning to Fiorentina could be thwarted by Inter’s rigid demands for the Viola, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri signed the midfielder for €5.5 million plus €1.5 million in bonuses two years ago, and they would now like €3 million to sell him back.

Inter will also refuse to contribute to paying Valero’s wages, however, which Fiorentina had been counting upon in any potential deal.

Vincenzo Montella wants to bring the 34-year-old back to Florence after signing him from Villarreal in 2012, but Valero also has interest from Mallrorca.

Piero Ausilio met Daniele Prade in Milan on Wednesday to discuss a deal for Valero, who currently earns €3 million per season.

Relations between the clubs are ‘cordial’ again after tension erupted over Mohamed Salah in 2015, but that may not be enough to guarantee a deal is reached.

Fiorentina will remain hopeful of welcoming Valero back until the transfer window closes on 2 September, but neither club seems willing to change their stance for now.

Montella made an effort to include Lucas Biglia in a deal for Jordan Veretout, when the new Roma midfielder seemed destined to join Milan, but Borja is the player he wants above all others.
