Napoli’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to be certain Mauro Icardi is interested in the Partenopei before trying to sign him, according to Il Mattino.

Icardi has no future with Inter after being excluded from the Nerazzurri’s preseason tour in Asia, but he seems to prefer a move to Juventus at present.

De Laurentiis is willing to make ‘an important investment’ to bring Inter’s former captain to Naples, as he seeks a 30-goal-per-season striker for Carlo Ancelotti.

Maurito’s reluctance to properly entertain the idea of joining the Partenopei could scupper any deal, however.

Antonio Conte confirmed on Friday that Icardi was ‘not part of his plans’ for this season, having left him to train alone at Appiano Gentile this week.

Napoli have put the 26-year-old at the top of their wish list, with reports elsewhere suggesting they are no longer in pole position to sign James Rodriguez.

Icardi scored just nine goals for Inter last year, in a campaign that saw him stripped of the club captaincy and embark upon a one-month self-imposed exile.
