Roma have spoken to Matteo Politano’s agent about the possibility of resigning their former academy forward, according to Il Messaggero.

Davide Lippi negotiated with the Giallorossi recently when they completed a deal for another of his clients, Leonardo Spinazzola.

Inter signed Politano from Sassuolo on a permanent deal worth €20 million last month, but the 25-year-old could have less game-time in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system.

Roma did not seem particularly enthusiastic about the idea of bringing Politano back, though, because their first choice in that position remains AC Milan forward Suso.

Politano scored six goals in all competitions for Inter last season as Luciano Spalletti remained faithful to his 4-2-3-1 formation throughout.

But Conte’s change of system means he can only realistically play as a second striker, much like Ivan Perisic.

The former Juventus and Chelsea boss’s idea is to have two pairs of attackers up front, with Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku backed up by Politano and Lautaro Martinez.

Politano picked up a thigh strain two weeks ago and missed Saturday’s defeat to Manchester United as a result, but the forward hopes to return to play Paris Saint-Germain at the weekend.
