Stefano Sensi looked beyond Inter’s penalty shoot-out defeat against Juventus today and insisted the Nerazzurri were on the right track under Antonio Conte.

Matthijs De Ligt’s early own goal put Inter ahead at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre, but Cristiano Ronaldo equalised in the second half with a deflected free-kick.

Gianluigi Buffon saved from Borja Valero while the spot kicks were being taken, ensuring a 4-3 win for Maurizio Sarri’s men.

“The coach asked us to play with intensity and press Juventus high in their own half,” Sensi told Inter TV.

“We played a great first half in my opinion, before the heat caused us to drop a little deeper.

“We’re working to put what Conte is asking from us into practice and we’re particularly happy to have done well in defence.

“I’m playing alongside great players so I’m settling in well. We need to try and improve our forward passes and the way we control the ball though.”

Inter’s final International Champions Cup match will take place in Macao on Saturday, when Conte’s side face Paris Saint-Germain.

The Nerazzurri will then return to Europe for their last two games of preseason, against Tottenham and Valencia respectively.
