Inter have been encouraged to think twice before selling Ivan Perisic by one of their legendary past midfielders.
Mario Corso won four Serie A titles with the Nerazzurri in the 1960s and 1970s, before going on to manage the club briefly in 1985.
Perisic played 78 minutes in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Juventus in the International Champions Cup, which the Bianconeri ultimately won on penalties, and Corso was impressed with what he saw.
“I think the world of him because he’s a great player,” Corso told Inter TV.
“Even when he wasn’t playing very well last season it was always him creating Inter’s best chances. He knows how to score as well, so I would never give him away.”
Corso is confident Antonio Conte can oversee a successful first season in charge, provided the club sign him two strikers.
“One won’t be enough because at the moment there’s only Lautaro Martinez,” he added.
“I’d want Edin Dzeko first of all as he knows Serie A well and is physically strong. He’d be the main acquisition, and with another good striker we can have our say this year.
“We’re looking good in midfield and in defence as well, following the arrival of Diego Godin.”
Corso was impressed with Inter’s performance in Nanjing, despite the eventual shoot-out loss.
“I liked the first half a lot because the team showed great personality and played good football,” he said.
“The players seemed more concentrated and determined than against Manchester United. It’s early to pass judgement but I was pleasantly surprised by the performance.”
Inter’s final International Champions Cup match will take place in Macao on Saturday, when Conte’s side play Paris Saint-Germain.
