San Siro will be partially closed when Atalanta play their Champions League home fixtures there this season, according to L’Eco di Bergamo.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side could not use their own stadium in European competition because there is renovation work being done.

Inter and Milan both agreed to lend Atalanta their own ground for the group stages, but Inter’s ultras recently voiced their opposition to the idea.

Both curvas will be shut when they play there between now and December, dropping the maximum capacity from 80,000 to around 43,000.

Atalanta finished level on points with Inter in Serie A last season but they ended third courtesy of a superior head-to-head record.

Neither side was capable of wrapping up a top four finish before the final day, making for a very nervy final 90 minutes in May.

Gasperini’s side beat Sassuolo 3-1 after falling behind while Inter scraped the 2-1 win they needed at home to Empoli.

Inter will be in pot 3 for the group stage draw in August while Atalanta begin in pot 4.
