Inter’s hopes of signing Ivan Rakitic seem remote because the Croatian international wants to stay at Barcelona.

Mundo Deportivo this morning reported the midfielder will no longer be an important player for Ernesto Valverde moving forward.

However, Rakitic remains convinced he can play a key part in Barca’s 2019-20 campaign, despite the competition he will have from Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets and Arthur.

Inter were heavily linked with the 31-year-old earlier this year, but it appears they no longer stand a chance of bringing him to Italy.

Rakitic could have joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but the French champions have since cooled their interest.

The former Sevilla man has enquired about the possibility of extending his contract in Catalonia, which currently expires in 2021, but Barca have assured him that will not happen.

Rakitic contributed five goals and 10 assists last season as Barca won another La Liga title and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
