Christian Vieri has backed Inter to achieve great things under Antonio Conte this season, although he does not expect fireworks immediately.

The Nerazzurri are tipped to challenge Juventus for the Scudetto, but they are struggling to complete their squad in the transfer market.

Vieri is convinced Conte will get things right in Milan, not least because there is still a month left until the summer window closes.

“Inter are a work in progress, but they have a great coach and they’re changing a lot of players,” the ex-forward told Gazzetta TV today.

“It’s impossible to think a normal team could become a supersonic side in the space of three months, but they’re on the right track.

“People need to be calm because there are clubs who are further ahead than the Nerazzurri. They need to buy the right players to finish the squad.”

Vieri also backed Romelu Lukaku to succeed under Conte if he moves to Inter, although the striker currently seems closer to joining Juventus.

“He’s a great centre-forward and Inter would solve their problems up front if they brought him in,” Vieri added.
