Edinson Cavani’s agent is working to set up a deal that would take the Paris Saint-Germain striker to Inter, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Inter have all but lost hope of signing Romelu Lukaku and are beginning to throw their weight behind the club’s first alternative.

Marcelo Simonian will not find it easy to release Cavani from his contract in Paris, but his diplomatic mission has already begun.

“If beforehand Cavani was just an idea Inter had out of caution, now everything points towards the Uruguayan becoming Antonio Conte’s key signing up front,” the Rome-based paper reported this morning.

“It will be up to Simonian, who is on great terms with PSG’s hierarchy, and an Italian colleague working as a mediator to open the door.”

Inter have already tried to sign Cavani once this year, offering PSG a swap deal involving Mauro Icardi back in April.

The idea fell through almost instantly, but the Nerazzurri now hope the outcome can be different for Cavani.

It remains to be seen whether Neymar’s future with the French champions will influence any potential deal for Inter.
