Inter are now firmly behind Juventus in the battle to sign Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku, according to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning.

The Nerazzurri’s last offer for the Belgian was worth €60 million plus €5 million in bonuses and they do not intend to make an improved bid.

The paper assured it was ‘almost impossible’ Lukaku could join Inter at those conditions, albeit the transfer market remains unpredictable.

Juventus are in talks with United over a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala, which would also include a small fee in the Bianconeri’s favour.

Dybala appears to be Inter’s best hope of regaining ground in the race for Lukaku, with the forward currently reluctant to leave Turin for Manchester.

La Joya has never imagined a future away from Juventus and would prefer to move to La Liga over the Premier League, if he really did leave.

Juventus and United would both benefit financially and technically from a swap deal, with Dybala’s departure poised to produce a capital gain worth nearly €70 million.

The Italian champions need to secure a high-profile sale to balance their books, as talks with Manchester City for Joao Cancelo begin to falter.
