Mauro Icardi would be more than welcome at Napoli if he completed a move to the San Paolo, Lorenzo Insigne assured today.

The Partenopei want to make a high-profile signing in attack this summer, but they are beginning to lose hope of securing Nicolas Pepe or James Rodriguez.

Icardi’s arrival could make it harder for Insigne to hold down a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI, but the forward insisted he was not worried by Napoli’s transfer plans.

Insigne told La Repubblica: “Competition for your place is never a problem, it only provides added value. Whoever arrives will be welcome.”

Icardi will resume preseason training alongside Inter’s first team tomorrow when Antonio Conte reunites his squad at Appiano Gentile.

The Nerazzurri’s former captain missed last week’s tour of Asia but reportedly remains confident he can earn a second chance at Inter.

Insigne himself was briefly linked with a move to San Siro in 2016, when Aurelio De Laurentiis first made an approach to sign Icardi.

Reports of a possible swap deal between the two forwards reemerged last month, but nothing appears to have developed since.
