Inter’s bid to sign Edin Dzeko could be given a boost this week when Roma meet Gonzalo Higuain’s agent for talks, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Giallorossi have identified the Juventus forward as their preferred replacement for Dzeko, who is waiting to join Antonio Conte in Milan.

Higuain’s brother and agent Nicolas will meet the capital club and discuss a move to the capital, despite Gonzalo’s reluctance to leave Juve.

Inter are hoping Higuain can be convinced to sign for Roma so they can move closer to signing one of the two centre-forwards they need.

Beppe Marotta was intercepted by reporters outside the Italian Football Federation’s headquarters in Rome this afternoon, telling them there were ‘no updates’ regarding Dzeko.

Conte will resume preseason training at Appiano Gentile tomorrow, following Inter’s summer tour of Asia, and will only have Lautaro Martinez available up front.

With Romelu Lukaku moving ever closer to joining Juventus, Dzeko’s arrival would be a much-needed boost for Conte and Inter as they struggle to complete their new-look squad.
