Inter gave up their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku after Manchester United reiterated they wanted €83 million for the forward, according to Calciomercato.com.

Juventus have overtaken the Nerazzurri in the battle to sign the Belgian and seem close to agreeing a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala.

Dybala has yet to accept a move to Old Trafford and could throw Inter a lifeline if he said no to the Red Devils.

However, it seems unlikely even that would make a difference, because United have never lowered their €83 million price tag.

Beppe Marotta was reportedly considering a new offer for Lukaku earlier this week, in the hope it could earn Inter even the slightest discount on the 26-year-old.

United do not seem to be willing to grant such a request, though, and look ever more likely to complete their swap with Juve.

Antonio Conte resumed preseason training with Inter’s first team this morning but it appears his wait for a new centre-forward is destined to continue.
