Joao Mario is expected to continue talks over a move to Monaco in the next few days.

Sportitalia last night reported the midfielder was ‘not enthusiastic’ about the thought of joining Brighton, despite previously expressing a preference for the Premier League.

Inter want to offload the Portuguese international so they can pursue other transfer targets, but they will need a healthy fee to avoid a net loss.

Mario made 20 league appearances under Luciano Spalletti last season, scoring once in a 5-0 win at home to Genoa.

Inter have never received a sufficient return on the €40 million investment they made on the 26-year-old three summers ago.

Mario spent the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan with West Ham and is not part of Antonio Conte’s plans this year.

Monaco have been linked with several other Inter players recently, among which are Ivan Perisic and Dalbert.

Leonardo Jardim has already coached Mario while at Sporting Lisbon and is seemingly keen on arranging a reunion.
