Lautaro Martinez could make his first appearance of the season as early as Sunday when Inter face Tottenham in the International Champions Cup.

El Toro met his new boss Antonio Conte for the first time on Wednesday after belatedly finishing his summer holidays last weekend.

The 21-year-old scored nine goals in his debut campaign for Inter and is expected to make big strides for the Nerazzurri this year.

“Lautaro won’t have much time to get acclimatised to Conte’s new methods,” Gazzetta dello Sport warned the striker this morning.

“With no other centre-forwards available Conte will be asking a great deal from him right from the start.”

Lautaro had help from his fellow Argentine Mauro Icardi last summer as he settled in after a move from Racing Avellaneda.

However, the Nerazzurri’s former captain is now headed for the exit door and he will therefore have increased responsibility on his shoulders this season.

“A year ago it was Icardi acting as his mother hen, helping him as he got used to his first experience with European football,” Gazzetta recalled.

“Now Lautaro will have to walk alone, just as he learned to do after Icardi suffered his ‘downfall’ last season.”
