Napoli are unwilling to meet Inter’s asking price for Mauro Icardi or satisfy the striker’s wage demands, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Inter want €80 million to sell their former captain but the Partenopei believe that figure is ‘excessive’, considering Icardi is already on the side-lines in Milan.
Icardi’s request for an €8 million annual salary is also considered too much, though, because Napoli are only prepared to offer around €6 million.
“There’s time for more talks before the transfer window closes and perhaps the parties will all move closer to one another,” the paper reported this morning.
“This is all classic strategy, though, as everyone looks to get the best deal for themselves.”
Icardi remains hurt by the treatment Inter have reserved him and wants Napoli to make a financial gesture that restores his pride and reputation.
Napoli have always prioritised their economic stability as a club, though, making it unlikely such a high offer will be made.
CdS assured a deal was ‘practicable’ but admitted it was hard to know how much time it would take.
