Inter lost another first-team player to injury on Friday as Diego Godin picked up a thigh problem in training.

The defender underwent tests at the Istituto Humanitas in Rozzano which revealed a pulled rectus femoris muscle in his left thigh.

Godin’s condition will continue to be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, ruling the Uruguay international out of Sunday’s clash against Tottenham.

The 33-year-old is also likely to miss Inter’s final preseason match against Valencia, complicating Antonio Conte’s preparation for the new Serie A campaign.

Matteo Politano and Valentino Lazaro have already picked up similar thigh problems since training began four weeks ago, as Inter’s new fitness coach Antonio Pintus puts the players through their paces.

Godin made his debut for Inter against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend and was in line to start against Spurs in London.

Conte has enough defenders to cope with the former Atletico Madrid man’s absence, but today’s news is an inconvenience he could have done without.
