Antonio Conte will be reliant upon Inter’s defenders and midfielders to contribute goals this season if the club do not sign him a high-profile striker.

Tuttosport today reported he is hoping the likes of Stefano Sensi, Nicolo Barella, Roberto Gagliardini and Matias Vecino will step up to the challenge.

Barella and Sensi are both capable of taking corners and free-kicks, though, meaning Conte could also look to his back-line for inspiration.

“Inter have a great array of specialists in the air,” the paper assured this morning.

“Diego Godin is a true master in that sense, just as he proved against Cesare Prandelli’s Italy side at the 2014 World Cup.

“Stefan De Vrij scored 10 goals in the last three seasons and Milan Skriniar is there too, but you can’t forget Vecino himself or other defenders like Alessandro Bastoni, Andrea Ranocchia or Danilo D’Ambrosio, all of whom are strong aerially.”

Conte’s first Serie A fixture in charge of Inter will pit him against his former club Lecce, who arrive at San Siro on 26 August.

Inter will hope to sign two new forwards before the new campaign begins, with Lautaro Martinez currently the only first-team striker available.
