Serie A’s plans to introduce a VAR ‘control room’ this season have been delayed until January, according to La Repubblica.

Video Assistant Referees began working in Italy’s top flight two years ago and have so far been stationed at trucks outside each individual ground.

The league wanted to move all officials into an underground chamber for the start of the 2019-20 campaign, but it will not be ready until the New Year.

The paper explained: “The space earmarked for this new room has to undergo stability checks with the municipality of Florence, who need more time to provide a response.

“They also need to wire up the structure to all the pitches around Serie A, which is the responsibility of the relevant tech suppliers.”

Italy’s Football Federation has expanded the initial project to build one control room, asking for a supplementary space to be created in which guests can watch officials carry out their work.

This is expected to help the Italian Football Referees Association (AIA) move towards their goal of getting club owners to watch their teams play each other together.

Inter’s first fixture of the new league season will see them host newly-promoted Lecce on 26 August.
