Stefan de Vrij assured Inter were happy with their performance against Tottenham on Sunday.

Antonio Conte’s side fell behind to a Lucas Moura goal inside two minutes but earned a 1-1 draw after Stefano Sensi’s equaliser.

The match went to penalties at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Joao Mario sealed a 4-3 shoot-out victory.

De Vrij told Inter TV: “We’re satisfied with our performance. We struggled in the first 15 minutes but we regrouped afterwards and played proper football, scoring a nice goal.

“We were up against a great team who reached the Champions League final last season. It wasn’t easy in this stadium in front of their fans but we showed a level of character and courage that will cause everyone problems.

“You can always make mistakes but what matters is your approach to the game. We struggled a little to pick up Erik Lamela when he dropped between the lines and it wasn’t easy to mark him, but we were aggressive as a team and we did well.”

Inter will finish their preseason campaign against Valencia on Saturday, before the Nerazzurri face Lecce in their first Serie A match of the year.

“The Valencia match will be another great friendly against a strong team,” De Vrij added.

“We need to prepare ourselves as well as possible to play Lecce on the opening weekend.”
