Danilo D’Ambrosio’s agent tonight confirmed the defender was on the verge of extending his contract with Inter.

Vincenzo Pisacane held talks with the Nerazzurri at their offices in Milan, in a bid to sort the final details of the renewal.

D’Ambrosio’s new deal will run until 2021 or 2022, but Pisacane said it was Inter’s prerogative and not his to make the news official.

He told FcInterNews.it: “Inter have shown they appreciate Danilo a lot. They’ve given him great recognition and this is extremely pleasing for us.

“Danilo is at the centre of Inter’s plans going forward and cares hugely about doing well. He’s always honoured the shirt and we’re happy the club have recognised this again in his sixth year at Inter.”

D’Ambrosio was linked with a move to Roma earlier this summer as the Giallorossi’s new sporting director Gianluca Petrachi tried to secure a better deal for Edin Dzeko.

Pisacane insisted Inter had never put the centre-back on the transfer market, though, neither this year nor in previous years.

“Every time I took them offers as an agent I was always told he was not for sale,” he continued.

“Danilo is very happy at Inter, especially in this team which is aiming to achieve important things. There’s a charismatic coach who’s a proven winner and now it’s time to do something big here.”

Pisacane also assured D’Ambrosio would have no problem settling into Antonio Conte’s new 3-5-2 system, not least because he has past experience in that position.

He added: “You’d struggle not to get on well with a winning figure like Conte.

“Danilo has already played in a three-man defence with Luciano Spalletti and he’s learning a lot to play in another position.”

D’Ambrosio has made 177 appearances in all competitions for Inter since joining from Torino in 2014.
