Inter are once again favourites to sign Romelu Lukaku after Juventus withdrew their interest for the Manchester United striker, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Lukaku returns to training with United today but he no longer wants to play in the Premier League, instead hoping for a move either to Milan or Turin.
Inter’s last offer worth €60 million plus €5 million in bonuses was deemed insufficient by United, but the fact their offer is cash only puts them back in pole position.
This means the Nerazzurri do not have to complete the deal before the Premier League’s transfer window shuts on Thursday, unlike the proposed swap involving Lukaku and Paulo Dybala.
Inter’s hopes of securing Lukaku would be given a huge boost if United found a replacement for the 26-year-old in the next 48 hours.
Juventus were considering selling Mario Mandzukic to the Red Devils, but they have now called this off after realising they would be helping their arch rivals.
Inter have agreed a five-year deal with Lukaku worth €9 million annually, bonuses included, and are likely to submit a much-improved offer to United soon.
Antonio Conte still holds out hope of securing his no. 1 transfer target, but things should be much clearer in one sense or another by the end of this week.
