Inter were surprisingly linked with a move for SPAL wing-back Mohamed Fares today by their head coach Leonardo Semplici.
The Algerian made 35 appearances in Serie A last season as Semplici guided his side to survival for the second year running.
Fares, who has nine caps for his country, scored in wins against Parma and Roma before netting in a 3-2 defeat to Milan on the final day.
Asked about Manuel Lazzari’s recent move to Lazio, Semplici told Gazzetta dello Sport this morning: “I expect to see him playing for Italy soon. And our other wing-back Fares could sign for Inter or Atalanta.”
Fares came to Italy in 2012 when he joined Verona’s youth academy, making 64 appearances for the first team before leaving last summer.
Inter are known to be seeking another left-sided wing-back on the market, after Antonio Conte decided Ivan Perisic was unsuited to that position.
Dalbert and Kwadwo Asamoah are the Nerazzurri’s two main options on the left for now, but the former is not yet certain to stay.
