Diego Milito has denied criticising Inter for ‘lacking respect’ towards their former star striker Mauro Icardi.

El Principe appeared on Fox Sports Sur last night and was believed to have suggested Inter had treated their former captain in ‘not the right manner’.

However, the treble-winning hero distanced himself from those comments in an Instagram post this evening.

Milito said: “Last night I appeared on a television programme in Argentina, where I was asked for my opinion on the situation concerning Mauro Icardi.

“I responded with complete sincerity, like always, but unfortunately various news outlets have reported comments I never made, such as ‘a lack of respect’ from Inter towards the player.

“This is absolutely not true and I would not allow myself, from the outside, to judge the actions of this great club, who employ a lot of very competent people that are capable of handling these situations in the best manner possible.

“My only hope, like I said yesterday, is that a solution can be found as soon as possible for the good of the player and the club I will always hold dear to my heart.”

Milito scored 75 goals in 171 appearances for Inter, before returning to Argentina in 2014 to finish his career with Racing Club.
