Inter’s former striker Alessandro Altobelli encouraged Mauro Icardi to join Juventus today and form a formidable strike partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Bianconeri are being persistently linked with Maurito this summer and it seems CR7 has given the green light to a deal now too.
Altobelli told Gazzetta dello Sport the pair could potentially play together, although it would require a lot of work from Maurizio Sarri.
“He’ll need to work on their understanding while also getting them to adjust to his style of play going forward,” Altobelli said.
“Sarri is the right coach for Icardi and Ronaldo, although two players with their talent would be able to play together even without outside help.”
Icardi is viewed as a more selfish striker than Ronaldo’s current teammate Mario Mandzukic, but Altobelli was not convinced that would be an issue.
“You can’t ask a centre-forward to track back as much as Mandzukic does,” he added.
“If anything, Sarri’s philosophy means Icardi and Ronaldo could carry out an organised high press when opposition teams look to build play.
“It all depends on the intelligence of your players and there can be no doubts about that with these two.”
