Beppe Marotta remains hopeful Manchester United will drop their asking price for Romelu Lukaku after the Premier League’s transfer window shuts tomorrow, according to Corriere della Sera.

United are still demanding €83 million and not a penny less for their striker, who risks missing out on a move to Italy after flirting with Inter and Juventus.

Reports in England yesterday suggested Inter had submitted an improved bid worth €75 million, comprised of €67 million and a further €8 million in bonuses.

The Nerazzurri have flatly denied these claims, however, despite renewing their interest for the Belgian international this week.

Inter would be taking a financial risk by offering more money for Lukaku but Marotta is confident he can cover the investment by completing various ‘important’ sales.

United are unlikely to sanction a deal until they have found a replacement, though, and they now only have 24 hours left to do so.

Lukaku trained with Anderlecht’s under-18s on Monday and Tuesday and is planning to stay with the Belgian giants until he has sorted his future.

United have definitively closed the door on a move for Paulo Dybala, meanwhile, despite claims the forward is reconsidering a move to Old Trafford.
