Inter Hold Further Talks With Dzeko’s Agent Before Roma Forward Benched For Friendly

Inter held further talks with Edin Dzeko’s agent at their offices in Milan today, as reported by FcInter1908.it.

Silvano Martina also met the Nerazzurri yesterday and left the club’s headquarters just before 6pm local time.

Dzeko is anxiously awaiting a move from Roma and was left on the bench for tonight’s preseason friendly with Athletic Bilbao, coming on for the final 22 minutes.

Roma appear to still want €20 million for the striker, who scored 14 goals in all competitions last season.

Wednesday’s leading sports papers all reported Dzeko was prepared to put his foot down with Roma in order to force through his transfer.

Gazzetta dello Sport said the striker wanted a new challenge at the age of 33 and considered his time in the capital to be over.

“Dzeko so far has conducted himself in an exemplary manner, working hard in training and never raising his voice, and perhaps this approach gave Roma false hope of him changing his mind,” they reported.

“The club again reiterated last weekend how much they believe in him, asking him to stay for another season without signing a new deal and then leave on a free transfer.

“Despite the best attempts of Paulo Fonseca and his teammates, though, Dzeko has never changed his mind. He wants to be part of Inter’s new project.”

Elsewhere, Corriere dello Sport described Dzeko’s current mood as ‘annoyed, surly and stubborn’, before revealing a telling comment he made after Roma’s last preseason win against Lille on Saturday.

They revealed: “When people praised him for his performance in that match, Dzeko responded by saying: ‘I’m training for myself and for Inter’.”

Dzeko was annoyed with comments made about him by Gianluca Petrachi last month, when he was unveiled as Roma’s new sporting director.

The forward was advised not to reply in public, but now he has had enough and will do whatever it takes to secure his move to Inter.
