Inter are now extremely close to completing a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United, according to Sky Sport.

The Nerazzurri have been locked in talks all day and are waiting for an official response to their latest offer, which is close to United’s €83 million asking price.

Gianluca Di Marzio assured there were very positive signs coming from the clubs’ negotiations in London, leaving Inter optimistic of sealing the deal today.

His colleague Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the news on Twitter, revealing Inter and Lukaku were within touching distance.

Multiple sources in Italy and England are reporting very similar news this evening, which would suggest a deal really is close to completion.

The Daily Star suggested Lukaku was on the verge of moving for €78 million, while the Telegraph confirmed the €83 million offer reported by Di Marzio.

James Ducker wrote for the latter: “Inter are understood to have offered United an initial €70m (£64.7m) with a further €13m (£12m) payable in add ons, a significant increase on the £54m bid they had rejected last month.

“United have been holding out for a profit on their original £75m outlay to Everton, given that they must the Merseyside club a £5m windfall under the terms of the deal that took Lukaku to Old Trafford in 2017 should the striker leave this summer.

“But with relations between Lukaku and United having soured, Inter believe they have made a very respectable offer and are now hopeful of getting a deal over the line.

“Inter’s failure to offload Argentina striker Mauro Icardi had complicated their efforts to finance a move for Lukaku but Antonio Conte has been pushing for the club to secure a deal for his primary transfer target.”

BBC Radio 5 Live also confirmed a deal for Lukaku was now ‘close’.
