Inter CEO Beppe Marotta was praised today for getting one over on his former club Juventus by signing Romelu Lukaku for the Nerazzurri.

Well-known Italian columnist Mario Sconcerti said Marotta had showed his true colours again this week, having appeared in confusion as the Bianconeri chased his top transfer target.

However, he then issued a warning to Inter over reports they might send Mauro Icardi to their arch rivals.

Sconcerti told calciomercato.com: “Marotta won the battle by acting like the patient and inspired maestro he has always been, while Fabio Paratici fell into a trap as Paulo Dybala rejected all destinations.

“Juve’s sporting director tried to do too much, going on the attack and negotiating for several big players in a short space of time, but he still has time to make up for it.

“If Paratici brings Icardi to Turin and earns good money from a few player sales, the failure to sign Lukaku will become a very handy defeat.”

Lukaku underwent a medical in Milan this morning and was officially unveiled as Inter’s fifth summer signing in the afternoon.
