Inter are unlikely to sign Edin Dzeko from Roma until the Giallorossi have secured a replacement, as explained by Repubblica this evening.

The striker’s agent Silvano Martina met sporting director Gianluca Petrachi today and reiterated his client’s desire to leave, having agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri in March.

Roma still have no intention of letting Dzeko go for less than €20 million, though, despite the fact Dzeko is pushing ever harder to be released from the club.

Dzeko played just 22 minutes of Roma’s latest preseason friendly yesterday, as the Giallorossi laboured to a 2-2 draw against Athletic Bilbao.

Repubblica suggested Petrachi was playing for time with Inter because he is waiting for Mauro Icardi to join Juventus.

Maurito’s move to the Bianconeri would force Gonzalo Higuain to reconsider his position in Turin, perhaps convincing him to join Paulo Fonseca in the capital.

Roma have made little secret of the fact Higuain is their main target if Dzeko departs, but Pipita has shown no sign yet of wanting to join the Giallorossi.

Antonio Conte wants Dzeko to partner Romelu Lukaku up front this season but it seems he will have to wait a little longer yet.
