Romelu Lukaku wants to take Mauro Icardi’s no. 9 shirt after the striker completes his move to Inter today, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Belgian international underwent a medical in Milan this morning and will meet his new teammates at Appiano Gentile in the afternoon.

It remains to be seen whether Lukaku will travel with the first team for Saturday’s preseason friendly against Valencia, or whether he will stay behind to work in Italy.

“Antonio Conte is waiting for Lukaku but so are the rest of Inter’s players, who are convinced they can cut the gap to Juventus with him on board,” the paper reported.

“If Inter took the no. 9 shirt off Icardi and gave it to him it would be another strong sign from the club towards Maurito.”

Icardi is training with the first team again after being left out of Conte’s squad for the tour in Asia last month.

Juventus, Napoli and Roma continue to be linked with the 26-year-old but Icardi does not seem willing to countenance a departure for now.
