Romelu Lukaku’s arrival will make life much easier for Antonio Conte as he continues to mould his new Inter side, as explained by Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Nerazzurri have followed a clear style of play throughout preseason, staying compact in defence before using forward passes to counterattack quickly.
However, Conte’s ideas could not be fully put into practice without a strong centre-forward, something he now has with the former Manchester United and Everton forward.
“Conte’s plans involve Edin Dzeko dropping into midfield to help build-up play, working as an advanced play-maker and only then as a finisher in the box,” the paper explained.
“Lukaku, on the other hand, will have to break down opposition defences by keeping them occupied and running into the space behind, giving Inter an immediate solution for their forward passes.”
Lukaku is left-footed and has always impressed in the air, but the Belgian is capable of scoring in various manners.
His height and physical strength are an advantage up front but they are also useful in a deeper position, with Paul Pogba playing him more passes than any other player at United last year.
Lukaku is a modern and mobile forward but he also boasts certain old-school characteristics, such as an ability to hold the ball up from long goal-kicks.
Conte’s biggest challenge now is to get him up to speed in terms of fitness, given his preseason preparation has been heavily disrupted so far.
