Inter’s former striker Nicola Ventola is convinced the Nerazzurri have made an ‘incredible’ signing in Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian international finally arrived for a potential fee of €75 million on Thursday, following weeks of fraught negotiations with Manchester United.

Ventola said he was delighted to see Lukaku join the club he still supports, having scored 21 goals in 65 appearances for Inter.

He told Radio Sportiva: “Lukaku is a player I really like, a classic centre-forward who can do everything up front.

“He’s technically strong, he can run in behind defences, he’s complete and he’s a great signing. It’s incredible to see him come to Inter.

“Lukaku and Edin Dzeko are both good at providing assists, despite their physical stature, so they would cause opposition defences lots of problems together.”

Lukaku’s arrival pushes Mauro Icardi even closer to the exit door, with reports yesterday suggesting he could even have his no. 9 shirt taken away.

Ventola assured nobody could question Maurito’s talent but encouraged the forward to find a new club.

“His situation should have been handled better from the start, but now there’s a standoff and that means he needs to go because there’s no space for him anymore,” he added.

“For him it would be a shame to stay at Inter, although I don’t believe a swap deal with Paulo Dybala is impossible. It depends on the club and the players.”
