Beppe Marotta is working hard to ensure Mauro Icardi cannot sign for Juventus next summer if he joins Roma this month.
Corriere della Sera today reported the Inter CEO was prepared to include a clause against his former club in a future agreement with the Giallorossi, giving Inter the right to compensation should Maurito be sold onto the Italian champions.
Roma are convinced they can win the race to sign Icardi this summer, not least because they can offer Edin Dzeko to Inter in a part-exchange deal.
However, Icardi’s move to the capital could prove to be little more than a prelude to a future in Turin, especially given Gianluca Petrachi’s very close relationship with Fabio Paratici.
Icardi has given Juventus until Sunday to make their move, at which point he would reconsider interest from Roma and Napoli.
But Paratici cannot step up his interest for the 26-year-old until he has offloaded some players in attack, forcing him to play for more time.
Marotta appears to be suspicious that Icardi will agree to join Roma on the sole condition that he can move to Juve in twelve months’ time.
Inter will do everything within their power to stop the clubs plotting against the Nerazzurri, with today’s reports of a anti-Juventus clause marking a first step in that direction.
