Mauro Icardi is still waiting on a move to Juventus despite increasingly strong interest from Napoli and Roma, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The striker has finally decided to leave Inter after realising that it would damage him more than the club to stay on the side-lines for an entire season.

Maurito’s entourage have begun listening more closely to Napoli and Roma’s offers, but they are also making it clear they are awaiting a move from the Bianconeri.

“The Icardis are convinced Juventus will come calling eventually, but the difficulty Fabio Paratici is encountering in trying to offload players might have created some doubt in Mauro’s mind,” the paper reported this morning.

“That’s why Wanda Nara has asked Napoli and Roma for more time, in the hope things will become clearer during the next week.”

Both clubs are holding out hope Icardi will change his mind but neither can afford to wait too much longer.

Icardi will need time to get up to speed wherever he goes, having missed a lot of Inter’s preseason training, but Napoli and Roma both have huge matches on week 2 in Serie A, against Juventus and Lazio respectively.

Edin Dzeko is hoping Icardi will pick Roma and enable him to join Inter in a part-exchange deal, well aware his future will otherwise almost certainly be in the capital.

The Bosnian is disappointed at not being able to complete a transfer he believed was imminent more than a month ago.
