Inter’s president Steven Zhang was encouraged by the energy he saw while visiting the Nerazzurri’s players in training yesterday, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Zhang made a special visit to Appiano Gentile to study Antonio Conte hard at work, following appearances in the morning from both Beppe Marotta and Javier Zanetti.

Conte oversaw a series of physical, technical and tactical exercises as Inter prepare to make their Serie A debut against Lecce on 26 August.

Zhang sounded out the mood among the squad and discovered a ‘charged atmosphere’ within the first team.

Inter impressed during a tough preseason schedule that saw them lose just once, against Manchester United in Singapore.

Conte’s side then recorded draws against Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham and Valencia, winning the last three fixtures on penalty shoot-outs.

Expectations are high following the arrival of Conte as head coach but there is still work to be done before the transfer window closes.

Inter are looking for another centre-forward to partner Romelu Lukaku while also seeking a wing-back and a low-cost midfielder.
