Inter legend Lothar Matthaus appeared to snub Ivan Perisic today when discussing Bayern Munich’s plans in the transfer market.

The Bundesliga champions were interested in signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City this summer, but talks fell through after the forward picked up a serious injury last week.

Perisic has arrived instead on an initial loan deal, but Matthaus seemed to suggest there was little chance of Bayern signing him permanently next year.

He told Bild: “Sane was meant to be Bayern’s top signing but I think they’ll bring him in anyway. The club’s management are preparing everything in the long term.

“It would be the right decision in my opinion. Sane has great potential and would reinforce their side.”

A move for Sane in twelve months’ time would in all likelihood mean Bayern do not exercise their option to buy for Perisic.

The 30-year-old scored 40 goals in 162 appearances for Inter after joining from Wolfsburg in 2015.
