Gabriel Barbosa is dreaming of returning to the Brazilian national team one day.
Inter spent €30 million on the striker in 2016 after watching him help the Selecao win gold at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Gabigol has not made a single appearance for his country since then, but the 23-year-old hopes his red-hot form with Flamengo will bring him back into consideration.
“I’m eagerly anticipating a call-up, but I’m dedicating myself to Flamengo and I must leave the decision to Tite,” he told reporters at a press conference yesterday.
“It would be a dream for me to return to the national team but I’ll keep working no matter what happens.”
Gabigol has revived his ailing career in Brazil after unsuccessful spells in Europe with Inter and Benfica.
He has scored nine goals in 10 league games for Flamengo, where he will remain on loan until 31 December, as well as four goals in seven Copa Libertadores appearances.
“Given everything I’m going through, this is the best moment of my career,” Gabigol added.
“I need to thank everyone who is helping me; from the coach, who puts on high-intensity training sessions and is helping me develop a lot, to my teammates, among whom are several players I would never have imagined playing with.”
