Inter’s bid to sell Mauro Icardi to Napoli received a helping hand from Lorenzo Insigne earlier this week, according to Corriere del Mezzogiorno.

The Partenopei’s forward contacted the striker and tried to persuade him to accept a move, with several other players getting in touch as well.

Napoli’s hopes of signing Icardi were given a boost last night as Roma withdrew from the running, having tied Edin Dzeko down to a new three-year deal.

But Maurito is widely thought to prefer a move to Juventus, having begun talks with their sporting director Fabio Paratici earlier this year.

Aurelio De Laurentiis has already made one attempt to bring Icardi to Naples, making a series of offers for the 26-year-old in the summer of 2016.

However, Icardi ultimately decided to stay at Inter and signed a new contract shortly after the new season began.

Inter have made it clear they wish to offload their former captain this time, having excluded the player from every preseason friendly under Antonio Conte.

Juventus remain favourites to secure the 26-year-old’s signature, albeit they need to sell some of their own forwards before making a move.
